Vietnam Launches Balcony Solar Projects BSS4VN with Hoymiles as Strategic Partner for Micro-Inverter Technology

Ho Chi Minh City, 19 June 2025—Vietnam took a major step toward deploying solar energy with the official launch of the Balcony Solar Systems for Vietnam (BSS4VN) project. The kick-off ceremony marked the start of an innovative pilot that seeks to replicate Germany’s success with plug-and-play solar solutions adapted for Vietnam’s urban households and businesses. The project will tap the unused balcony space in cities to boost the adoption rate of clean solar energy. As a strategic partner, Hoymiles will support the project with its expertise in advanced technology for microinverter solutions, making balcony solar systems safer, smarter, and easier to install.

Bringing Germany's success to Vietnam through global partnership

The BSS4VN project is a public–private partnership, with GIZ (the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) serving as the public-sector lead, and a strong network of Vietnamese and international companies including SolarBK, REEPRO, 365 Energy, Tona Syntegra Solar, Blueberry Energy, SmartSolar and Phuc Khang as private partners as private partners. Hoymiles is the project’s strategic third party partner.

Inspired by the widespread adoption of balcony solar systems in Germany—where over 1 million units were already registered—BSS4VN introduces a user-friendly, technician-free solar solution designed for Vietnam’s high-density cities.

The project aims to pilot 100 balcony solar systems across Ho Chi Minh City, starting with the first installation at Diamond Lotus Riverside Building, developed by Phuc Khang Corporation. Each system is expected to cover approximately 17% of an average household’s electricity demand, with an estimated payback period of six years or less, based on calculations from February 2025. Beyond installation, the project will also work on policy recommendations and business models to enable nationwide scaling of balcony solar systems.

The launch ceremony was attended by Mr. Christopher Scholl, Deputy Consul General of Germany in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Markus Bissel, Project Director of BSS4VN project (GIZ Viet Nam); Mrs. Luu Thi Thanh Mau, CEO of Phuc Khang Corporation and senior leaders from the partners companies including Hoymiles, SolarBK, REEPRO, 365 Energy, Tona Syntegra Solar, Blueberry Energy, SmartSolar. Representatives from business associations, academia and local authorities were also present.

Hoymiles' advanced microinverter technology to power the pilot project and pioneer Vietnam's balcony solar market

A highlight of the event was a solution presentation by Hoymiles’ Regional Sales Manager Nguyen Khoa Huan with the theme “What is a Microinverter for a Balcony Solar System.” The session emphasized the high performance, flexibility, and easy plug-and-play installation of Hoymiles microinverters—key factors driving the success of balcony solar. A live demo offered contractors and customers a first-hand look at the simplicity of connection, underscoring the practicality of the technology.

As the project’s strategic partner for micro-inverter technology, Hoymiles is expected to take part in a series of high-level stakeholder engagements hosted by BSS4VN Project.

The ceremony not only celebrated the beginning of this new solar chapter for Vietnam but also helped raise awareness of Hoymiles’ solutions among major contractors and investors in the region. With its hands-on implementation, strategic policy engagement, and public outreach, BSS4VN project will lay the groundwork for a future where balcony solar systems become a mainstream energy solution in Vietnam.
