Hoymiles Supports Germany’s Largest Solar Upcycling Challenge to Set New World Record and Advance ESG Goals

July 5, 2025, Germany — Hoymiles, a global leader in smart solar energy and storage solutions, proudly joins hands with Climate Connect e.V., a non-profit and community-driven environmental platform, to provide microinverters for the "2025 Solar Panel Upcycling World Record Challenge." This ambitious nationwide hands-on solar upcycling initiative aims to set a new benchmark for solar recycling by assembling the largest number of plug-in PV systems in a single day — using second-hand solar panels and Hoymiles microinverters.
Following a successful pilot event last year in Freiburg — where 200 PV modules were used to set up 100 plug-in solar systems — this year's challenge expanded nationwide. The events took place across five German cities: Erlangen, Emmendingen, Marburg, Potsdam, and Würzburg. Coordinated by Climate Connect and supported by regional climate groups, volunteers, and local residents, the 2025 challenge seeks not only to break records, but to redefine how solar technology can be more sustainable, inclusive, and impactful.
When upcycled solar panels meet advanced microinverter technology
At the heart of every system is Hoymiles microinverters — known for their safety, flexibility, and ease of installation. Altogether, Hoymiles provided approximately 500 microinverters (HMS-350-1T and HMS-400-1T) to help participants complete the DIY installation.
Each HMS-1T microinverter operates with a single solar panel, making it extremely adaptable to different installation conditions. Thanks to Hoymiles microinverter's advanced MPPT technology, each solar panel can operate at an optimal level regardless of shading or dusting on other panels in the system.
By reusing second-hand PV panels and equipping them with high-performance Hoymiles microinverters, participants assembled balcony-style plug-in systems that can deliver real green energy to homes.
In addition to building balcony systems, each venue also hosted educational outreach, product demonstrations, and technical support stations to assist participants throughout the installation.
Sustainable efforts in action, as always
The event resonates with Hoymiles' ESG goals, as the company has been making continuous contributions to a more sustainable and greener world.
By giving a second life to hundreds of used solar panels, the event champions the circular economy and prevents valuable materials from ending up as waste. Through hands-on participation, communities have gained knowledge about clean energy solutions while engaging citizens of all ages in meaningful climate action.
Hoymiles believes that innovation must go hand-in-hand with responsibility. By facilitating solar upcycling at scale, the company has not only showcased the reliability of its microinverters, but also its commitment to a more sustainable and inclusive energy future. With this initiative, Hoymiles and Climate Connect have set a new standard for public-private collaboration in climate action, where clean technology meets community empowerment, and innovation drives long-term environmental and social purpose.
