What's your role at Hoymiles?

I'm responsible for our microinverter range and some other new innovations that we're working on. That involves being right across the product lifecycle in areas like understanding product needs in more than 80 countries and safeguarding product quality. I also have an important internal role, bridging the gap and helping communication between R&D, manufacturing and marketing.

How long have you been in the industry?

I majored in power electronics and have been working in the field for ten years. I got into the photovoltaic industry specifically around three years ago.

What do you enjoy most about working at Hoymiles?

As a team, we all put our customers first. When a customer has a requirement, I can provide a comprehensive solution – one that addresses those requirements, but also exceeds expectations.

What's your biggest accomplishment?

One thing that stands out is my role in improving production testing. I helped standardize how tests are completed, reducing errors from 30% to 3% and driving better accuracy and efficiency.

What's your biggest challenge?

Before Hoymiles, I was a hardware engineer. That was a very different role from the product manager. So my ongoing challenge is to adapt my thinking – to define and develop products from a customer perspective and treat a series of products as one holistic system. It's a constant area for improvement!

What's your favorite book or podcast?

I like reading history books. China: A Micro-History will always be special because it was the first history book I read. But I also like Guns, Germs and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies by Jared Diamond.

What do you think solar technology will be like in 100 years?

I think solar energy will become the world’s largest source of power and green buildings will be everywhere. Instead of worrying about pollution, we'll be finding new ways to integrate solar, wind power, electric vehicles and other technologies. Today, the idea of a photovoltaic highway is advanced, but I believe this will become the standard way to charge your electric vehicle. Hoymiles will continue to explore solar energy, make innovative applications possible, and help everyone live with power that’s safe, efficient and accessible.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

Outdoor sports, especially cycling. I used to cycle from Chengdu to Lhasa, I also enjoy self-driving tours like the one from Hangzhou to Dali, Yunnan. I suppose what I enjoy most is going out, exploring, and experiencing different cultures and lifestyles.

What's your role at Hoymiles?

I'm an engineer in the R&D department's product system team. I'm responsible for designing and rectifying the product system, as well as preparing technical documentation for operation and maintenance.

How long have you been in the industry?

I've been in this field for more than eight years.

What's your professional passion?

The solar industry is still developing fast. Technology is advancing all the time. My greatest passion is doing work that lets me stay in touch with the most cutting-edge technology, and my role at Hoymiles does that.

What do you enjoy most about working at Hoymiles?

I really like the company atmosphere. The whole team is young, energetic and open-minded.

What's your biggest accomplishment?

I'm proud to have been part of the founding team behind Hoymiles. It's been very fulfilling to see the company grow over the years.

What's your biggest challenge?

Our fast-developing industry is a challenge as well as an exciting place to be. Our teams are so talented that keeping up means continuous learning and improvement, but it's a challenge I enjoy. Hoymiles is still growing and developing, so I'm happy to keep up.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?

The secret is communication and coordination with your family, friends and colleagues. Work and life aren’t always in perfect balance, but good communication prevents conflicts.

What's your favorite book or podcast?

I enjoy science, technology and sci-fi. My favorites are Ball Lightning and The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin. I also like time-travel movies like Looper, Source Code and The Butterfly Effect.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

I have two: don't pay too much attention to opinions and don't wait for everything to be ready. I used to spend a lot of time preparing myself fully to do one thing, but this often causes problems. Start sooner and prepare as you proceed, because your plan will never anticipate all the possible changes.

What do you think solar technology will be like in 100 years?

I think the utilization rate of solar will increase a lot. I don't think we'll limit our energy collection to the surface of the earth and, at the same time, collection devices, storage and transportation will all become more efficient. In addition, I think the way we use solar energy will diversify, so we will depend far less on more traditional power sources.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I like carpentry and crafts, such as small mechanical toys and automata. I also like cycling, spending a day or two on short rides. And I like to play video games – I'm a huge fan of Blizzard and particularly enjoy Hearthstone and Overwatch.

What's your role at Hoymiles?

I'm the Sales Director for Latin America. So that means I'm responsible for market development and maintaining great customer relationships.

How long have you been in the industry?

I've been in international trade for six years and five years in photovoltaics specifically.

What's your professional passion?

I enjoy working with overseas customers, recommending them great, high-quality products that actually make the world better. We're really protecting the environment with what we do. That keeps me motivated and, year after year, we're seeing big increases in sales with amazing speed. I love working in an industry with such huge development potential.

What do you enjoy most about working at Hoymiles?

The people are really nice here, that's a big positive. But also I get a lot of freedom and autonomy. Hoymiles uses human-based management and flexible working time. I also have the opportunity to travel a lot, experiencing different cultures, local food and seeing the sights.

What's your biggest accomplishment?

We've really developed the Latin American market. We have a great reputation there, which makes me happy. I remember at InterSolar South America in Sao Paulo, I was having dinner in a local restaurant with a business partner. A man recognized me instantly from across the room – I think this unexpected encounter means Hoymiles' recognition is growing too!

What's your biggest challenge?

It's always difficult to lead a team well and something I'm continuously working on. I want to be a great leader.

What's your favorite book or podcast?

I enjoy books and videos about travel. I’m currently learning Spanish, but I also enjoy a YouTube channel called Alan X Mundo – they have really high-resolution videos with views from around the world. It's great.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

Be focused. As humans, we don't have enough energy to handle everything. Focus on what's important and how you can improve, then go step by step.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

That depends on the weather! I enjoy cycling and playing badminton. If I'm inside, you'll find me listening to music, reading, or spending time with my family.

I'm in charge of storage products.

How long have you been in power electronics?

It's been more than ten years since I started. And I joined Hoymiles right after I finished my PhD, so I've been here a long time.

What's your professional passion?

I have two. I like making every product the best it can be and it means a lot when customers recognize that reliability and quality. Day-to-day, I'd say my biggest passion is solving problems, which is very fulfilling.

What do you enjoy most about working at Hoymiles?

I like working with the team. There's a relaxed atmosphere but, at the same time, everyone is working hard to achieve our shared goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment?

Our storage product – it's something we started from scratch. In the beginning, we didn't know anything about storage, but we developed it bit by bit. It took a lot of effort, but I'm proud that, today, our customers can benefit from a reliable, efficient storage product.

What's your biggest challenge?

The storage product again. Nobody on the team had relevant experience and everything was an obstacle. But we learned together, developed new expertise, and overcame these challenges.

How do you maintain a work/life balance?

I spend time with my child and family.

What's your favorite book or podcast?

I like professional books and history books. I really enjoyed Records of the Three Kingdoms and the Biography of Wang Yangming.

What do you think solar will look like in 100 years?

New energy with solar storage at the core will be integrated into people's lives. It'll be no different from the way we use conventional energy today. But solar storage products will be lighter, smaller, and safe. The world will no longer worry about electricity.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I like to play football — I'm also part of the Hoymiles football team. And I love science fiction movies. My favorites are The Matrix, Inception and Transformers.
