Residential solar project in Nova Scotia, Canada
In Nova Scotia, Canada, changing temperatures and winds make it not easy to build power transmission and distribution networks. Warm, short summer, and cold snowy winter, peppered with fogs every now and then, pose a great challenge to power generation. High electricity rates only exacerbate the situation. That is why the estate owner Stephen Mildenberger decided to tap into solar energy.
Hoymiles partnered with Aartha Group and successfully completed a microgrid project in Mildenberger Estate, Halifax, making economical power generation possible for the owner.

Make most of sunlight

To make better use of the precious sunlight, the Halifax estate owner resorted to Canadian Solar bifacial panels, Mechatron gearless dual-axis tracker, and Hoymiles microinverters.

Bifacial panels to increase production

Regular, more-commonly-seen solar modules capture sunlight with only one side facing the sun. Bifacial ones, as the name suggests, have both front and back sides to generate electricity as sunlight directly hits the front and is reflected and diffused on the back. This can help to boost power production by making the most of sunlight during the daytime and in different weathers, especially during snowy winter when light can easily get reflected off.

Dual-axis tracker to promote flexibility

Solar trackers are devices that can tilt solar panels according to the movement of the sun throughout the day. Therefore, compared with fixed installation, solar trackers can maximize power production of the sun-facing side of solar panels. Besides, fixed installation can mean significant power losses during wintertime because snow buildup can prevent modules from capturing sunlight. For Halifax estate, Mechatron dual-axis tracker proved to be a reliable and perfect fit since the near-vertical positioning capability enables snow to shed from the panel more easily.

Hoymiles inverters to ensure efficiency

By converting DC to AC and ensuring effective Maximum Power Point Tracking, Hoymiles microinverters put the finishing touch to the reliable operation of the residential PV system. Equipped with 90 Hoymiles microinverters, the whole system can operate in its optimal range.

Performance & Savings:

Despite the upfront cost of installation, this microgrid is expected to increase power production even in bad weathers and save large sums of money for the owner in the long run. The electricity demand for the estate can be largely satisfied and excess electricity can be sold back to the grid under net metering.

That is where the charm of solar energy lies. You can choose the best solution to your installation scenario from a range of selections, combine them together, produce optimal power output, and get good value for your money.
